As a college student, splurging on natural beauty products is out of the question. Over the past few months I’ve been trying to switch out my makeup and skin products for chemical-free versions, and with a bit of research I learned that you don’t have to drop hundreds of dollars to have a natural skincare routine! There are tons of great all-natural brands with affordable, well-reviewed products, and I wanted to share some of my favorites for those of you looking to switch up your skincare routines too!
All of the products listed below can be found on Amazon, and the prices listed are based on the date this post went up. Additionally, this post contains affiliate links, and you can read my disclosure by clicking here.
This is one of my favorite products right now, along with the rest of The Body Shop’s tea tree oil line! Tea tree oil has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that make it a great alternative to harsh chemicals when treating acne. I use it twice a day and haven’t experienced any dryness, and it leaves my face feeling super smooth and clean. Oh, and the bottle is huge! I’ve had it for over a month and I haven’t even hit below the top of the sticker line. I’m also using their body wash and face toner.
I’d been wanting to try a fluoride-free toothpaste for a while, and Tom’s of Maine is now my go-to toothpaste brand. I love that they prioritize sustainability in every aspect of their business (including the packaging), and the toothpaste smells fantastic!
If you’re looking for an all-in-one natural product, you have to get this stuff! This is way more than just soap. You can use it as body wash, shampoo, laundry soap, brush cleanser, dish soap—just check out this post on its 18 uses! Dilution is key with this product, meaning you don’t need to use nearly as much as you would regular soap, so it lasts a long time, making the price totally worth it.
Okay, I know this is a little outside of “affordable”, but hear me out! When it comes to makeup, or really anything that’s going on my face, I tend to splurge a bit more than I would on anything else. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin, and using generic makeup tends to break me out more, so I’ve been investing in bareMinerals products for the past few months and love them! The products in this kit are fairly small (it’s marketed as a 30-day trial), but considering a full-size mineral powder is around the same price, I think this kit is a great way to see what works for you before investing in a full-size product! I use the Matte SPF 15 Foundation and Foundation Primer on a daily basis.
If you haven’t hopped on the coconut oil bandwagon, it’s time to join. Health bloggers aren’t kidding when they say this stuff is magic, and I’ve been using it for everything from hair oil to eye makeup remover for years. A 16 jar like this will last you months, and searching “coconut oil uses” on Pinterest will show you just how popular and proven this stuff is!
Natural beauty products come in more forms than just makeup and face cleansers. EcoTools is an affordable, eco-friendly brand whose brushes are packaged in reusable cosmetic cases that are printed on 100% tree-free paper made from 80% bamboo and 20% cotton fiber. I got to test a few of these out a while back and still use them on a daily basis!
