The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students

in College, Wellness on 08/24/17

This post has been a LONG time coming. I got the idea a few months ago when a company reached out to me about trying their subscription box, and I realized that I kind of love the idea of them?? It’s like a little gift to yourself every month! But did y’all know how many subscription box companies are out there???

I did the research for you. It’s A TON.

So. I decided to email every subscription box company I could find that sent boxes with stuff I would love as a student and ask for a box.

I ended up with 8 awesome boxes ranging from $6-$50 a month, and what excites me the most about this post is how diverse all the boxes are! I found healthy food boxes, beauty boxes, face mask boxes, and so much more. And I’m going to review them all for you RIGHT NOW. I somehow managed to keep all the boxes sealed until yesterday, so this is all a surprise to me too!

calmbox – a monthly box for peaceful moments

Y’all. I feel like this box was meant to come into my life. I never would’ve imagined that someone would make a box like this, but thinking about it now it sounds so obvious?? Everything in this box has me so excited to dive in after I finish this post (I’ve been taking these flatlays all day and could really use some calm).

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
Every calmbox comes with products like candles, books, and motivational reminders meant to help you relax and unwind. My favorite part is that there’s a new theme every month (like meditation), so you don’t feel like you’re just getting the same stuff.

Mine was definitely centered around stress relief, and I definitely plan on adding all of these products to my relaxation routine, especially with school starting up next week! This box came with a Tru Melange Reflection Candle Tin, a Moji Stress Ball, Dresdner Essenz Deep Relaxation Bath Salts, Tazo Calm Chamomile Tea, a Relaxus Worry Stone, The Gluten Free Bar in Oatmeal Raisin, and the book Joy in Every Moment: Mindful Exercises for Waking to the Wonders of Ordinary Life.

The calmbox is $35/month with free shipping, and they donate a portion of the proceeds from every box to charity.

Love With Food – organic, all-natural or gluten-free snacks

I love trying new snacks, but I don’t like spending tons of money on full-size boxes that I end up not even liking. This box came with a good variety of flavors, so as someone with more of a sweet tooth I was so happy that the whole box wasn’t just savory stuff!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
My favorites so far are the Veggie Go’s strawberry chia seeds + beets and the Quinoa Queen Citrus Bliss cereal. I would never have discovered these products outside of this box, so I’m probably going to keep my subscription to keep trying more!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
Their subscriptions start at $7.99/month for the size I got, and considering how much money I usually spend on snacks, that sounds like a great deal. You can also use my link to grab their deluxe size box (twice the stuff) for $11.95 for this upcoming month!

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box – cruelty-free beauty products

I know myself and a lot of my followers are very conscious about what they put on their skin, so I thought this box was a great fit for this post. Each box comes with 4-7 products (mostly full-size or deluxe-sample size), with a total value of $40-$60. A lot of beauty boxes come with very specific products that don’t necessarily work with everyone’s skin color or style, but I was really happy with the assortment in this box because I feel like all the products could be incorporated into anyone’s beauty routine!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
My box came with William Roam body lotion, Sade Baron hydrating face mist, Saiva Naturals brightening facial serum , 100% Pure lip gloss (this stuff is colored with fruit pigments and gets its glimmer from semi-precious gemstones?!?), and Derma E rose cleansing oil. I’m adding all of these to my daily routine immediately, starting with that rose cleansing oil tonight!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
Their plans start at about $20/month, depending on how many months you prepay for. I think this box would be great for any student who likes experimenting with beauty products but doesn’t have easy access to stores carrying these kinds of products. Although tbh, these are all products I’ve never heard about before and I kind of love that.

BOXYCHARM – beauty boxes

If you love trying out beauty products from both emerging and established beauty brands, this is definitely a box for you. Each box comes with 4-5 full-size products (v important) ranging from makeup to skincare items. Past boxes have included full-size Tarte palettes, sheet mask sets, and assortments of high-end makeup brushes, so I’d be really excited to see what’s in next months box!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
I received their July box (I told y’all I’ve been planning this for a while), which included the
Uni-Brow Universal Eyebrow Pencil by WinkyLux, the Spray.Set.GO. Makeup Setting Spray by project Beauty, the Electric Eyes palette by Binc, the Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo by bareMinerals, and an Ultra-Matte Lip by ColourPop. I actually needed several of these things (I’ve been meaning to buy a setting spray since like, high school), and like all the other boxes so far, the diversity of products in here was awesome!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
Their boxes are about $20/month, and the average value of a box is over $100 (mine was $127!!!), so it’s a pretty darn good deal. They also have a large community of subscribers that post tutorials with the products in each box, which as someone who really has no idea what I’m doing with makeup, that sounds pretty useful!

LOVE GOODLY – healthy, natural products

This box just makes me feel happy and so does the mission behind it! LOVE GOODLY was started by two moms hoping to help others discover nontoxic beauty, eco lifestyle and wellness products at a great price. The brands they carry are cruelty-free, organic, non-gmo, eco-friendly, and vegan, and with each purchase they give back to a cause.

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
My box came with an awesome assortment of products totaling $89, and I love that it wasn’t all beauty or all accessories. I received Kat Von D Beauty’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovecraft, a Faby Nail Polish, a GemTye Custom Heart Bracelet and Hair Tie, a Fred + Far Trillion Pin (this is immediately going on my bag), and New Chapter Perfect Hair, Skin, and Nails supplements.

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
I think this box would be great for any students who love supporting and buying from brands that are cruelty-free, organic, non-gmo, eco-friendly, and vegan, but can’t necessarily afford the high price tags a lot of those products carry quite yet. The LOVE GOODLY box runs $29.95/ month for an average of over $80 worth of product!

FaceTory – monthly Korean face masks

I’m a sucker for face masks, so the fact that I can subscribe to get them has me beyond excited. For one, this is the cutest packaging I’ve ever seen. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience of opening the box, tearing the tissue paper, and reading the full description of all 7 face masks my box came with.

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
I love the variety of masks in here, because obviously not everyone has the same skincare needs, and even within my own routine I have to switch things up based on the season and how my skin is doing. To give you the run down, my box came with the NO:hj Kinema in Beauty Contour Mask Serum, the Double & Zero My Sweet Macaron Mask with Red Fruits (I cannot wait to smell this), the Seoul Salon 7 Minute Miracle Mask, the Reclari Natural Spa Firming Glove + Mask Pack, the FG Beauty Stewardess Mask Pack Business Class, the Shine Kll Honey with Nature Mask, and the SNP Green Tension Calming Lifting Mask. I don’t even know which one to start with but I’m okay having that problem.

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
They have two plans, a four-pack for $5.95/month and a seven-pack (with more types of masks like sets and hydrogels) for $15.95/month. The four-pack is meant for people that are new to the face mask world, so I would definitely recommend subscribing to that if you’re interested at all!

ANDDD you can get 20% off your first box or kit with my code JESSICASLAUGHTER20, so pls go treat yourself.

FabFitFun – beauty, wellness, fitness, and fashion

Tbh, this was the only box I’d heard of before writing this post but I’d never tried it before. As always, the assortment in this box was perfect and I was actually pretty surprised to find some of the items in here!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
FabFitFun does things a little differently and sends out boxes four times a year, which justifies their $49.99 price tag. I received their summer box which came with a Michael Stars Ruana, a Kris Nations Mystic Bar Necklace (adding this to my necklace stack because it’s so cute ugh), a BKR Bottle (I’ve been wanting one of these for FOREVER so super happy about this), a Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate, a Avene Eau Thermale Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion, a Cargo HD Picture Perfect Highlighter in Bronze, a Way of Will Post Training Massage Oil, and a Salted Himalayan Pink Salt Kit.

For subscribers, you can actually choose categories that you would enjoy more and get a product more suited to you, so for example I received the “chef” pick (the pink salt kit) but could have chosen the “traveler” or “artist” pick instead. Since this box only comes four times a year and comes with a lot, I really like the idea of being able to customize my box like that!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
The total price tag on this box would be around $275, which is crazy considering the box subscription is ony $49.99!! You can check out past boxes on their website, and they’re all just as exciting and full of value. I’m planning on keeping my subscription for this box because I feel like it has the most variety of all the boxes I found, so it’s kind of like getting a bunch of subscriptions in one!

If this sounds like a box for you, use the code HARVEST to get $10 off your first box here!

PS – I just got a preview of the Fall 2018 box and it is SO perfect. Here’s a sneak peek at what you’re getting:

GLOSSYBOX – experience beauty in a box

The box is literally glossy, so this company is definitely taking this box thing seriously.

Each GLOSSYBOX comes with 5 luxury beauty products from niche, high-end, and emerging brands, and my box definitely screams luxury.

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
In their August box I received a Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara, a Doucce Blush, a Pixi Brow Tamer, Doctor Babor Hydro RX 3D Gel Eye Pads, Bliss Body Butter in Lemon Sage, and a full-size Freeman Beauty Infusion Charcoal & Probiotics Cleansing Clay Mask. I’ve been wanting to try out several of these brands, so I think this subscription is a definitely good fit for me!

The Best Subscription Boxes For College Students
Their boxes are around $20/month depending on the plan you choose, and the value of most boxes is at least three times that, so once again a pretty great deal for beauty lovers!

Okay WOW that was long so I really hope this helped anyone on the fence about starting a box subscription! I haven’t officially decided which subscriptions I’m keeping, but I’ll definitely update y’all on a chit chat sometime soon. Btw, I 100% missed last week’s chit chat because my roommates and I became addicted to Minecraft……..will talk about that Friday.
