The idea of clear skin is pretty foreign to me. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have some amount of acne on my face, but it was definitely pre-middle school. I’ve tried every cream, pill, and “natural zit-zapping face mask,” but none of them have made a noticeable difference in my skin. Despite this, I know keeping my face clean is important, and keeps my acne from blowing up too much, so I keep a consistent daily routine.

I try to switch up my skincare products every few months, but right now I’m loving these:
- Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel
- Clarisonic Mia 2
- Simple Replenishing Rich Facial Moisturizer
- Thayer’s Witch Hazel
- Clarisonic Deep Pore Daily Cleanser
- Clarisonic Detoxifying Clay Mask
face wash
Depending on how my skin looks in the morning, I’ll use one of two products. If I don’t have any new breakouts, I’ll do a quick cleanse with the Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel. It feels so silky smooth on my skin and I can’t get over how great it smells! Any new breakouts call for a bit more power, so I’ll switch to my Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser. It has salicylic acid in it, which seems to keep any new breakouts from lasting beyond that day.
At night, I like to get a deeper cleanse to rid my face of all the nastiness that it collects during the day. Recently I’ve been loving the Clarisonic Deep Pore Daily Cleanser that comes with the Clarisonic Mia 2! It makes my skin feel so smooth and clean afterwards, and I’ve noticed that I don’t wake up with new breakouts as often as I used to.
Clarisonic
I’ve seen so many beauty bloggers use these, and I’ve always wanted to try one. I feel like using my hands to wash my face only gets rid of half the makeup and other residue on it, so I had high expectations for the Clarisonic Mia 2.
After just a week of using this cleansing brush, I noticed an obvious decrease in redness and pore size on my face, and I actually look forward to hopping in the shower to do my nightly cleanse, which is really just a gentle face massage at this point. Oh, and that’s the other thing, the handle is waterproof! So no worries about bringing it in the bath or shower with you. I seriously wish I’d bought in one of these years ago, because the results are totally worth the investment.
toner
After cleansing at night, I like to apply a thin layer of Thayer’s Witch Hazel over my face. This natural astrigent helps heal and prevent acne, redness, oily skin, and so much more. It leaves my skin feeling super refreshed, and also gets rid of any leftover makeup residue after washing!
moisturizer
My skin gets extremely dry within a minute of washing my face, so a great moisturizer is a must. I’m currently using the Simple Replenishing Rich Facial Moisturizer, which gives my face the perfect amount of moisture without looking oily.
masks
Stressful weeks (aka every week during college) call for a weekly mini-spa days, so every Sunday I set aside some time to do a face mask. I’ve been alternating between two favorites recently: the Clarisonic Detoxifying Clay Mask and the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. I apply one about twenty minutes before a shower, because taking off a mask over the sink can get really messy, especially with clay masks.
