February Favorites

in Favorites, Sponsored, Wellness on 03/07/17

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tom's of Maine. All opinions are 100% mine.

If I could use one word to describe my favorite products in February, it would be natural. I’ve been trying to switch to natural versions of all my beauty, skincare, and oral care products for a few months now, and this is the first month that I could actually say that happened!

Before I get into my favorite products of the month, I want to share a bit about why I care so much about shopping natural and what made me commit to this routine. It’s really not that hard to make the switch, and I would recommend it to anyone!!

why I use natural products

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had acne all over my face. I tried every cream, pill, and 3-step kit available, but nothing got rid of those annoying bumps. Being typical me who doesn’t trust the “you’re probably just stuck with it for now” diagnosis, I started doing my own research.

What I learned pretty quickly was that the things I put in and on my body play a huge role in my skin’s health (along with my overall health, but that’s for another post!). A lot of people know that eating a lot of fast food or sugar can lead to acne, but most people wouldn’t question their foundation or face cleanser.

Aside from cleaning up my diet, switching to natural skincare products was a no-brainer, even if it didn’t change my acne status. I quickly realized that if my skin could be affected by what I’m putting on it, what about the rest of my body? To my surprise, there were chemicals and artificial colors/preservatives in almost all of the products I’d been using, which freaked me out enough to switch to natural beauty and oral care products too.

When Tom’s of Maine reached out to me about trying their natural oral care line, it was an obvious fit considering I’ve already been using their products for over a year and love them. Their toothpaste was actually the first natural product I ever used, and I immediately translated the question, “if this natural toothpaste is just as good or better than the other stuff I was using, why would I use a non-natural version?” to everything I own.

Now that y’all have a little background on this selection, here are my favorite products from February!

skincare

Witch Hazel Toner – Okay, I’ve actually been using this for over 6 months, but I haven’t shared about it before so better late than never! This stuff is a staple in my skincare routine. Every night, I apply a small amount on a cotton pad and rub it all over my freshly-washed face to get rid of any leftover makeup and tighten up my skin. No matter how well I think I washed my face, this stuff always takes off more! It’s paraben-free, contains all natural ingredients, and won’t dry your skin like some toners do. I have the original version with aloe-vera, but they have several others like this one with lavender!

Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask – The winter months make even oily faces like mine turn dry, so after realizing my typical masks weren’t moisturizing enough, I bought pretty much the holy grail of moisture masks. I’d seen this mask all over Instagram and now I understand why! This mask feels so good on my face and gets rid of any dryness I had immediately. I’m also just in love with the Glossier line in general, so expect to see more of their products in future posts!

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay – Um, wow. I bought this a while back after seeing so many vloggers rave about how great it is, and they were not exaggerating one bit. This is the cheapest, most effective face mask I’ve ever used. All you do is mix up a small amount of the clay with water (or Apple Cider Vinegar if your face isn’t too sensitive), brush it all over your face, and wait for it to dry. I freaked out the first time I used it because it literally felt like my face was being sucked off, but apparently that’s normal?? Idk, I just know my face loves this stuff and it dries up any acne I have.

After realizing I was actually out of toothpaste before writing this post, I stopped by my local Sprouts to grab some and a few other Tom’s of Maine products I’ve been wanting to try out. I knew they had a toothpaste line, but I had no idea how many options they had!! They literally took up two rows of shelving, and I spent at least five minutes trying to decide which one I wanted to try (I left with two because I couldn’t settle on one).

I also grabbed their mouthwash, floss, and toothbrush because #whynot. All of their products are free of artificial colors, artificial preservatives, artificial flavors/fragrances, and animal ingredients, so they fit in perfectly with my natural routine!

If you want to try out any Tom’s of Maine products and have a Sprouts store nearby, you can actually find some special offers for their toothpaste on the Sprouts App! I downloaded the Sprouts App in the Apple Store, but there’s also a Sprouts App in the Google Play Store. If you don’t know whether you have a Sprouts around you, try to Find a Sprouts near you!

clothing

Urban Outfitters BDG Parker Cardigan – I’ve been looking for the perfect long, cream cardigan for months, so when this one went on sale I couldn’t resist. I wear this thing almost everyday and it’s so cozy! For reference, I’m 5’4″ and wearing a size small. I’m tempted to grab one in black too since they’re still on sale!!

H&M Joggers – So I have this thing with lounge wear where I buy way too much of it, if y’all couldn’t tell. I practically live in joggers, and after grabbing these last month I think I own a black pair in every thickness you could possibly need. These ones are about the thickness of a cotton jacket, so they’re perfect for cold apartments! Oh, and they have pockets.

If you have any favorite natural products or other fun finds, let me know in the comments so I can try them out! And don’t forget to Visit Toms of Maine’s website for more information on their oral care line!
