Refreshing My Skincare + Beauty Routine

in Wellness on 08/21/18

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m admittedly a bit sad that I’m not going back to college this month, but I’m still feeling those “back to college” vibes since I start my new job in just a few weeks! This has always been one of my favorite times of the year because it’s an excuse to do some shopping and try out new products. I’ve repeatedly been that person who buys a new planner every school year only to stop using it after a month, so I’m not letting myself go down that route again, but I am taking some time to freshen up my skincare and beauty routine with a long-time favorite brand of mine.

I don’t buy new skin and makeup products without doing a ton of research on the brand and their product’s results, and that’s partly why I love doing haul-style review posts because I read them on other blogs all the time to help make my decisions. I get to be on the other side this time thanks to Burt’s Bees® letting me try out their line of skincare and beauty products from Walmart to give y’all the deets on my experience with them!

I already owned a few products in this review, but I picked up some things from several categories of their line to give y’all a good idea of how the brand overall could work into your college routine. I’d previously only used their lip products so I was really curious to see how their skincare products compared!

Tinted Lip Balm – This is a staple in my daily routine, and comes with me in my purse wherever I go. I don’t wear much makeup on class days, but this Tinted Lip Balm adds just enough color to make me feel put together and keeps my lips moisturized. It’s something you can throw in your backpack and swipe on as you’re walking to class. I personally use the shade Rose because it’s really natural and just emphasizes my own lip color, but they have five other shades to choose from!

Lip Shimmer – I struggle to find products that don’t dry my lips up after half an hour, which is why this product is now a trusted part of my routine. It adds a good enough amount of color and shimmer to my lips to make a statement while the Shea Butter and antioxidant-rich Fruit Oils keep my lips happy and moisturized. I went for one of the darker shades, Fig, which is a perfect shade for transitioning into any after-class events!

All-Weather SPF 15 Moisturizing Lip Balm – College is when I really started to take care of my skin and finally discovered that my lips actually require some care to stay healthy! Even if I’m not feeling a color one day, I always swipe on this Lip Balm to keep my chap-prone lips in check and know they won’t get even drier from a sunburn. It’s also perfect to bring on any spontaneous trips with roommates to the beach or ski slopes where sun protection for your lips is a must!

Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub – A good exfoliant is an important part of my skincare routine because it keeps my skin from breaking out and helps control some bumps I get in my t-zone every once in a while. This scrub gives just the right amount of exfoliation without feeling rough, so I can comfortably use it a few times a week! Like most college students, I couldn’t afford to get a facial every month to clean up my skin, so this product is a great addition to a skincare routine craving that extra treatment. I use it the recommended three times a week at night and have seriously noticed a difference in the frequency of breakouts I get in my biggest problem areas!

Natural Acne Solutions Targeted Spot Treatment – I’ve always wanted to try a spot treatment, and I conveniently had a little red bump pop up on my chin the day before I picked this product up. I don’t get them often, maybe three times a month when I’m extra stressed from tests or assignments, but they usually last for days and can get painful if I accidentally swipe my finger across them. I know there are some DIY options for this stuff, but I never had those ingredients laying around my college apartment, so a dedicated product was a much better choice!

The box says “This natural spot treatment is clinically proven to help reduce and improve the appearance of blemishes without irritating skin,” and it did exactly that. I dabbed this treatment on as I was going to bed and by the time I woke up, the bump had flattened out and left just a small red dot that was no longer painful. It’s been a couple days now and nothing’s reappeared, which is unheard of for me. I’m not one to wear foundation or concealer to class unless I’m breaking out, so this product would’ve saved me a lot of time during those weeks!

Micellar Cleansing Water – Okay, so I’m late on the Micellar Cleansing Water train, but geez was I missing out. I’m embarrassed to say that all these years I probably haven’t been fully taking off my makeup, but that’s finally changing! This product has Australian White Cypress oil and honey extract that gently removes your makeup while keeping your skin hydrated, and after using this each night this week, I haven’t noticed any irritation or dryness symptoms (of course, you should still follow up with a moisturizer!). The bottle is also huge and still a good price, and I can see this stuff lasting a full semester if not longer. There were definitely late nights after studying that I was not in a mood to wash my face, and leaving an extra bottle of this on my nightstand would give me an easy way to wash off any makeup or dirt without going through my whole routine.

Shop Burt’s Bees including all these products at a Walmart store or on Walmart.com! And let me know if you want to see more of these in-depth haul posts because I’d love to write more 🙂
