Sprucing Up My College Apartment With Devine Color

in College on 09/26/17

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Devine Color by Valspar. All opinions are 100% mine.

Those of you who have been following me for a while know I’m kind of obsessed with apartment decor. I wouldn’t be surprised if a third of my posts are about dorm/apartment decorating, although to be honest, I haven’t done many DIY projects.

I think I was just missing the inspiration to do them, so when I stumbled upon the Devine Color + Target collection on one of my oh-so-frequent Target trips, I immediately hit up my Pinterest inspo board and got brainstorming. I love how my apartment is decorated already, but my furniture is still in the same state it was when I bought it, so that’s where I put my focus. I came up with two main projects that I thought would fit perfectly with my current apartment theme and hit up Target, the only place you can buy from the Devine Color collection (or online)! They’re in the Home Improvement section near the light bulbs, so you have an excuse to pass through the Home Decor aisles 😉

I ended up grabbing paint in the color Pirouette (it’s a gorgeous light pink that pairs perfectly with the succulents I got) and some peel-and-stick removable wallpaper in the pattern Ribbon and the color Lightning and Karat. I actually got the wallpaper online because there were a lot more patterns there than in-store, so I would recommend checking Target.com first and exploring your options! The products are pretty inexpensive considering how much you’re getting, so I would plan out a few projects in advance to make the most of what you buy.

I also picked up a bunch of home decor items to complement the projects because the Devine Color products coordinate so well with Target’s decor style! You’ll see pics of the pieces I picked out below, but in general I went for lots of metal accents and pops of that light pink. Target also has some great faux succulents out right now, and the greens really helped give a good contrast to the whites/pinks in my projects.

The first project I did involved Devine Color’s peel-and-stick removable wallpaper and a drawer unit I’ve had for years. I had never considered using wallpaper on furniture but this is such a game-changer! It took me 30 minutes tops to transform these drawers into something cute and fresh.

Project #1: Before

Sprucing Up My College Apartment All I did was measure out each drawer, cut the right amount of wallpaper (I still have a ton leftover that will definitely be used in future coordinating projects), and rolled it onto the drawers while smoothing out any air bubbles. If you’re worried about getting the placement just right, this stuff removes and re-sticks so easily so don’t stress! That also means infinite color/pattern changes for anyone as indecisive as me…:)

Project #1: After

Sprucing Up My College Apartment I have a thing for succulents and metallics, so I picked up this cute little leafy plant and a desk organizer at Target that coordinate perfectly with the wallpaper. I also stumbled upon this pink lava lamp that keeps the color scheme going between my desk and the next project!

Project #2: Before

Sprucing Up My College Apartment This project required a bit more effort, but I still managed to get it all done in the comfort of my bedroom and spent less than an hour painting. I set out some garbage bags to keep my carpet clean, shifted some stuff around, and had a paint studio ready to go!

Sprucing Up My College Apartment I’m still not over how gorgeous this color turned out. It’s exactly what you see on the can, so it’s easy to coordinate decor pieces while you’re out shopping! I ended up doing the drawer project while this dried, and after only an hour it was good to go.

Sprucing Up My College Apartment Y’all. This piece turned out SO WELL. I’d been considering putting something at the end of my bed for months and this was definitely the perfect project to fill that space. I filled in the cubes with these storage bins (sweater storage!!), and added some plants on top (another leafy plant and this cactus), all from Target as always. I also grabbed this frosted tray to store my jewelry and any other little things I want to have easy access to. To tie it all together, I laid these thumbs up string lights across the organizer!
