UPDATED: My College Apartment Tour!

in College, Dorm Life, Must Read on 08/15/17

I’m not gonna lie, my apartment is kind of my favorite ongoing project ever. I LOVE decor shopping and putting IKEA furniture together and organizing my desk and everything else that comes with apartment life. My last apartment tour post went up just a couple weeks after I moved in, so it was pretty empty aside from furniture and a few decorations. A lot has changed since then and I wanted to share an update with y’all!

Like I said in my post last week, almost everything in my room is from a total of like, 5 stores including IKEA and Society6. I buy things with the hope of keeping them for years to come, so quality is really important to me and I just trust these stores the most! If you have a question about where something specific is from, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments.

I invested a lot in making my sleeping area as comfy and relaxing as possible. The biggest splurge item in my room is this duvet cover from Urban Outfitters, and it’s the softest thing ever. I love taking naps on top of it and usually just cover up with a blanket.

Society6 sent me both of the pillows (triangles | Evil Eye) and the blanket. Y’all, this blanket is SO COMFY. It’s like having a giant fleece jacket that covers your whole body. 10/10 recommend.

I also got this floor pillow because floor pillows are actually really nice to have in small apartments?? Whenever we have friends over for a game night, we just throw out a bunch of floor pillows in our living room so people aren’t awkwardly squeezing onto our tiny couch and folding chairs.

As for the furniture, I found my bed on Craiglist for like, $100 including a mattress, but it’s this MALM bed from IKEA. That tapestry above it is from Society6, and it’s a size small! I also just bought this hanging plant holder on Amazon, but obviously I haven’t found a plant to put in it yet.

In front of my bed is this little corner space, along with my closet that hasn’t changed whatsoever since my last tour so I’m just gonna keep that out. Both of these pieces are from IKEA (left | right) and I love how they display what’s inside while still looking organized!

The Instax photo sleeves are from Urban Outfitters, and I kind of like displaying them this way instead of sticking them to something that might leave them damaged later. The tiered dish thing is also from Urban, although I think they only sell the version with a mirror attached to the top now!

All the plants are from IKEA too because there’s basically nothing you can’t get at IKEA!!

Yet another IKEA installation. Both of these pieces are from their KALLAX series, and for some reason I was dumb and bought the cubes from Target instead of the IKEA ones that actually fit properly. I store everything from pants, to snacks, to tea in these cubes, and this is also where I recently made a little self-care corner!

Here I put pretty much anything that screams relaxation.

I keep this electric kettle in my room so it’s super easy to make a cup of tea or oatmeal anytime I want, and all the supplies are in one of the cubbies underneath.

My mom got me this aromatherapy set and it’s been so nice to have in my room! Instead of buying a new candle every week, I just fill this up with a few drops of whatever essential oil I’m feeling and it lasts for hours. I bought this mini drawer unit to put my essential oils in, along with any other little things that I don’t want to lose track of.

The little orange rock is from a shop outside Bryce Canyon National Park, I think it’s called honey calcite? I want to get more to put all over this desk! The succulent unfortunately isn’t real, but Target had a good deal and I couldn’t resist.

Oh, and if you’re looking for random decor to fill up your space, check out discount retailers like Ross. I found that chipped bowl in their clearance section for less than a dollar! Most of their stuff is super cheap anyway, but this was a steal.

By my doorway is a magazine rack that I found at Ross for like, $15. I keep anything that I might want to take when I go out in there, like my Instax camera or reusable bags.

My desk area is another space that I try to keep as clean and relaxing as possible, because lots of stressful and late night work goes on here! The desk is a combination of IKEA’s LINNMON table/legs and their ALEX drawer unit.

Above that is my DIY pegboard project. I got the pegboard at Home Depot for a few dollars, and the big prints on it are from Society6 (Bad Ass Babes Club | Austin Map | Plant | Mountain) and are in their Mini size. I hung them up with some bulldog clips from Office Depot and stuck them down with some adhesive putty.

My Echo Dot is housed on my desk (a purchase I’ve never regretted), along with this tissue box house, a Himalayan salt rock lamp, a locally made coaster, and an empty Topo bottle.

Next to my desk is my beloved RASKOG cart (I got the beige version and painted it white), where I store all my cords and tools. Behind that is my laundry hamper.

Above my laundry area is this bulletin board from IKEA where I stick any random mementos, along with my calendar from Rifle Paper Co.

That’s everything! Like I said, let me know if you have any questions about where something is from or suggestions on items for your room. I love sharing stuff with y’all and I really hope you liked seeing my little space! Also, if you’re interested in grabbing some Society6 stuff for your space, using my referral link will get you $10 off!
